Job Description
Objective for this position is to develop and manage the Trackhouse driver-in-the-loop (DIL) simulator program to optimize racecar performance. In this position you will work with drivers, race engineers and manufacturer support staff to evolve and improve utilization of the DIL to optimize racecar setups.
Duties, Expectations and Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute DIL test plans.
- Optimize DIL test methodology and techniques (e.g. real-time data analysis, driver coaching, etc.)
- Track data correlation.
- Tire modelling support.
- Improvement of driver-specific simulator perception and interaction. (e.g., cueing)
- Test reporting and DIL database management.
- Work collaboratively with Crew Chiefs and Race Engineering to maximize the impact of pre- and post-race simulation to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance vehicle performance.
- Working with all aspects of the team, actively support future car development.
- Other duties as assigned to meet the ever-changing landscape of professional sports
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, meet deadlines, and multi-task.
- Strong communication skills in-person, via email with team members, fans, and partners
- Keeping work area clean and organized at all times
- Provide assistance to other team members on other duties as appropriate
- Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Race engineering experience a definite bonus.
- 2-3 years of experience in the field of vehicle dynamics and simulation.
- Basic coding capability, Trackhouse uses Python for engineering tool development.
- Good interpersonal skills. Position requires interaction with race team personnel, drivers and manufacturer team support groups.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, able to break down complex problems into digestible, understandable actionable tasks.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrable ability to deliver at the leading edge of our sport.
- Understanding of motorsports vehicle dynamics simulation techniques, underpinned with a strong grasp of road vehicle aerodynamics and tire mechanics.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to remain calm in pressure situations and maintain a customer-service mindset.
- Experience in NASCAR industry, professional sports or high-level college athletics is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to selected test and/or race events.
